We struggled against the fast water current of the Yampa River with our river rafts to land at Harding Hole that afternoon. The heat of the day was intense in the canyon as it must have been upstream in the Zirkel and Flat Tops Wildernesses! The flow was super high at 22,000 CFS with huge logs and trees floating by. The rapids in the middle of the channel were crested with whitecaps as the sun set. The sandstone formation of Cleopatra’s Couch lit full over river and desert as afternoon thunderheads and their squalls floated over the horizon. A 35mm Nikon FE2 with 55mm Nikkor Lens with an F-Stop set at f32 and shutter speed at 1/2 seconds was used to make a time-lapsed image of the river flow and warm light at sunset.
