Description

High up the trail on the way to the summit of Golden Horn Peak in the San Juan Mountains and you’ll find this expansive vista of Ice Lake and the surrounding peaks. The rich high alpine tundra was illuminated by afternoon sun rays slipping between the building Cumulus. Ice Lake itself appears to be a pearlescent blue. Rare indeed, this phenomena occurs because calcium carbonate flowing in spring waters out of an abandoned mine nearby line the bottom of the lake reflecting the bule sky. A Nikon D300 DSLR and 28mm lens set with a F-Stop at f8 and shutter speed at 1/250th of a second and ISO50 to capture the depth of color and high flying clouds.
